“Shopper” Instructions
Line up in the Narthex, getting ready to get a grocery cart and be paired with a person or family.
Carefully move the grocery cart so as not to damage the walls or hurt someone. You should have 2 or 3 boxes in the cart as well as 2 or 3 plastic bags.
First stop by and offer the person a Bible tract. They should only get one. Not one of each. There are some in Spanish. (This table may actually be outside the front door)
They can also get a card for a prayer request. If they do, please show them where to put the card and pen when they are finished (in the Kitchen pass-thru window) - on their way out.
Talk with them along the way.
Proceed toward the food. You may need to assist the person in getting the different food (cans, bottles, boxes, etc.) from the tables and put them in the cart. Please make note that the index cards on tables in the sanctuary indicate how many items from that table per family, but this can change throughout the morning as we see how many people are coming through.
After you have finished the round in the sanctuary, proceed out the east or west door and the “bagboys” will take the cart to the person’s vehicle. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL A BAGBOY TAKES THE CART.
You should proceed to the line again and start all over.
“Bagboy” Instructions
Line up in the east hallway near the Nursery. The shoppers will hand off their grocery cart and their person or family.
Make sure the person or family leaves their prayer request in the kitchen pass-thru window before they leave. Also, remind them that children's clothing is available in the Fellowship House and direct them there if needed.
Please be very careful with the grocery cart so as not to damage the walls or anything else.
Deliver the groceries to the family’s vehicle and unload for them.
Talk with them along the way.
Return the cart back to be loaded with 2-3 boxes and 2-3 bags. You may need to assist with this.
Proceed to the east hallway to line up, waiting for the next one. Or they may be waiting for you!
Table Sitters
Sit or stand near your table or tables (you may be assigned to more than one – they will be adjacent to each other).
You should see that there is enough of the food on the table for the shoppers to get to. So you may be loading more on the table from behind or beneath the table periodically. Be careful not to overload the tables.
Each type of food will have an index card showing how many of that food should go to each person (this will be determined by the person in charge of Distribution - Jim Stinnett) .
Jim Stinnett will be coming around periodically changing the number on the index card, based on the number of people we still have waiting. Please be mindful of this.
You may assist some of those shopping to make it go quicker by actually placing the food in their grocery cart. Be careful not to block the traffic, if you stand in front of the table(s).
Depending on the food on your table and the quantity to be given, it may be advantageous to bag up the food, so you can just hand a bag to the shopper. For example, we have had individual bottles of water in previous giveaways. It was very helpful to put 6 bottles of water in a bag instead of having the shopper get 6 individual bottles and put in their grocery cart.
