Saturday Senior Mobile Meals
Purpose: To prepare and deliver Saturday hot meals to seniors within the local community.
Note: The Knox County Community Action Committee’s (CAC) Mobile Meals Program only delivers Monday thru Friday; hence, their clients do not receive a hot meal during the weekend.
Those Served: Most of the recipients are those who are on the Knox County Mobile Meals Program. Most are very old: More than 60 percent are over 85; many are in their 90s. Most live alone and have no one to help them. Other recipients include Faith Fellowship shut-ins or those from our church who are recovering from illnesses, rehabilitation, etc. We are not limited to these clients.
How Often: Once per month, typically the second Saturday of each month. A schedule is published each year. See church calendar for scheduled dates.
Disclaimer: This ministry is not officially a part of the Knox County CAC Mobile Meals Program.
Sponsors: Four local churches - Farragut Christian (coordinator), First Farragut United Methodist, Faith Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian, and Christ Covenant Presbyterian.
Area: Primarily Farragut (includes part of Hardin Valley, Canton Hollow, and Concord).
Number of Meals: Typically ranges from 25 to 35 per month, ~400 per year.
Menu: Chicken & Rice Casserole, Cooked Carrots, Dinner Roll, and Dessert.
Number of Delivery Routes: 4
Volunteers Duties: Meal preparation, assembly, and delivery.
Food is prepared at volunteer’s home, brought to the church to be packaged into individual meals, and is delivered by other volunteers. It usually takes each volunteer about one hour to deliver meals on their route.
Number of Active Volunteers: Approximately 35
Funding: Volunteers and church budget
Volunteers are always needed. If you are interested in becoming a part of this wonderful Community Outreach Mission or would like additional information, please contact:
