West Knox FISH Pantry (WKFP)
FISH is Food in Service to Humanity
Purpose: To feed the hungry by working with the West Knox FISH Pantry (WKFP), a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, that currently provides food packages to over 700 families each month from one West Knoxville location.
Those Served: Knox County residents that live in poverty. There are about 57,000 in Knox County – more than 25% are children. Many are in the downtown urban areas. WKFP works to reduce hunger in our community by delivering bags of groceries to the needy who have no transportation.
Partners: We have partnered with First Farragut United Methodist and St Elizabeth’s Episcopal Churches to answer phones and make deliveries of emergency supplies of food. This occurs on the 4th Wednesday of each month. In addition, in February of each year, we purchase the food and stock the pantry, located at 934 Weisgarber Rd.
Area Served: This depends on the phone calls on the day we serve. It ranges from East Knoxville, North Knoxville, and West Knoxville area.
Pantry Location: The West Knoxville pantry is located on 934 North Weisgarber Road at the Church of the Savior.
Duties: One month per year: Procure groceries, stock the West Knox Food Pantry, bag non-perishable groceries. One day per month: Take phone requests and deliver groceries throughout Knox County on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
Time required: Phone requests are taken from 8:30 am until 11:00 am. We typically have an early and a late “shift” of people answering phones; for deliveries, we have teams of two (preferably) who pick up the food at the pantry and deliver from about 11:00 am until about 2:30 pm.
Call Center Location: First Farragut United Methodist Church across from the Renaissance Center on Kingston Pike (about two miles east of Faith Fellowship). The phones are set up in their Conference Room.
Funding: The funding is shared by the partnering churches. Our portion is funded in the church budget.
Miscellaneous – We may have special collections of other items for the pantry, such as toiletries, etc.
