Missions Committee Description Rev B
Purpose: The Missions Committee has the general oversight of planning, promoting, and coordinating all mission activities within the church.
Scope: Missions include those to support local, community, urban, Appalachian, and global ministries.
Organization: The Missions Committee consists of the Missions Elder, a committee chairman, and 8 to 10 members. Typically, one member is a current officer of the CPWM, to represent their interests.
Duties:
1. Evaluate current and proposed FFCPC Mission programs* and make recommendations to the Church Session for approval. All recommendations sent to the Church Session should include a detailed description of the mission and all costs.
2. Plan and implement all approved mission events.
3. Plan and conduct annual Missions Event at the church while encouraging the congregation to participate.
4. Coordinate Church Missions with CPWM, Sunday School Classes, partner churches, and charitable organizations, etc.
5. Continuously monitor and evaluate all current Church Missions for effectiveness. Significant changes must be approved by the Church Session.
7. Communicate mission activities through the Weekly Updates, bulletin board, Church Website, announcements, etc.
8. Maintain records. This includes meeting minutes, etc.
9. Elect a Missions Committee Chairman annually.
10. Submit a Missions Plan for the coming year, typically in November. This should include a listing of all recommended missions, their cost, how they are funded, etc. The Plan should also include Goals and Milestones.
*CPWM and Sunday School Classes have their own missions activities which are funded from their budgets. The Missions Committee incorporates these missions into the Church-wide Missions Program to produce an overall missions picture for the church, but does not have approval authority. Typically a member of these groups is a member of the Missions Committee.
